Hartha School Solar Air Heating, 2013

Location:             Irbid, Jordan

Status:                  Complete

Application:         Solar Air Heating and Ventilation

Jordan’s public education system has a challenge of keeping children warm in the winter period (November – March) when the only means to heat the classrooms is kerosene heaters that are not only dangerous, but also polluting and costly. This pilot project aimed to test the viability of solar technology for direct heating of air into the class rooms on sunny days.

Four systems were installed on four class rooms with the objective of raising the comfort level and the climate in the class rooms so that they are warmer, and create a temperature rise of approximately 30 degree C (depending on the insulation level in the each classroom) during the day time for each 25 sqm classroom. The system is designed to work on sunny days in cold climates.
